Roland made a lot of people very happy when they released the JD800 back in 1991. For several years proceeding the JD800, Roland released several digital synths (most notably the D50) that sounded great, but were very difficult to program. The JD800 brought back all those cool knobs, sliders and switches which made programming the classic Roland Jupiter's and Juno's easy. It was an interesting mix of digital and analog concepts and became a popular synth for keyboard players who liked to program their own sounds.
The JD800's synth engine contains 6 Megabytes and 108 internal ROM waveforms which are then combined to create sounds. The sounds are similar to Roland's D-50, but updated with multimode filters. Great for creating synth basses, leads and pads. You can also create unique synth sounds and effects with it. The JD will hold 64 patches in it's memory.
The synth was expandable by the inclusion of slots for PCM and RAM cards. The PCM slot let you load in new samples, and a RAM card slot for loading new patches. It did not come with many acoustic sounds built in. However, Roland released a set of eight PCM cards which greatly expanded the sounds available for it. The String Ensemble, Grand Piano and Brass Section cards are very popular because they added more acoustic sounds to the JD. They are hard to find these days.
The JD has a solid 61 note keyboard which has velocity and after touch. It also was when Roland started to add more internal effects to it's synths and the JD's effect section had a good selection including Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Phaser, Distortion and even a 3 Band EQ. The JD is also one of Roland first multi timbral synths and up to six parts using up to 24 voices could be played at once.
Our JD800 patches are available as system exclusive or standard midi files. If your computer has a midi interface or sound card connected to the USB port, you can use your midi interface to load in the sounds. We provide the software along with your order that will load in the sounds for you. Midi interfaces are an inexpensive alternative to purchasing RAM or PCM cards. Sorry, but we no longer offer the sounds on the ROM, RAM or PCM carts as they were discontinued many years ago. Our sounds will also get you back in business if your JD800 battery has died and you lost all the sounds in the memory.
