Proteus 1 Proteus 1XR

Available in Mac/PC Sysex & Midi File Formats

Released by EMU in 1989, the original Proteus-1 was the very first 32 voice, 16 part multitimbral synth. For this reason, it's great sounds and the reasonable price tag it was a big hit. At the time I was working at Rogue Music in New York city and I must have heard the audio demo to it so many times that it got to the point when all the salesman would run out of the room when it started to play. Everyone was buying one, but they first wanted to hear that demo!

The original Proteus has 4 MB of sounds from the popular EMU EIII library including samples of pianos, organs, strings, horns, guitars, basses, drums and percussion,. It also contained 16-bit ROM samples, six individual polyphonic outputs and room for 191 patches. This was increased on the Proteus-XR to 384. There was no filter included which limited what you could programming. It was mostly used as a playback synth for reproducing multitimbral sequences.

Our Proteus-1 and Proteus-1XR patches are available in system exclusive (.syx) or standard midi files (.mid) and can be downloaded from our web site. We provide the software with your order that lets you load in the sounds. If your computer has a midi interface or sound card connected to the USB port, you can use your midi interface/sound card to load in the sounds. Midi interfaces are an inexpensive alternative to purchasing RAM or PCM cards.

Our sounds will also get you back in business if your Proteus battery has died and you lost all the sounds in the memory.
