Roland Juno-60 Load and Save Instructions For Cassette or Wav File
Midi Tips June 6th, 2007Loading Instructions:
Tape recorder or computer interface connections; Connect cable from your tape recorders or computer audio interface “output” to the rear “input” on the Juno-60 (LOAD).
1- Set the tape or software program so it will be played back from the very beginning of the data (where you hear a pilot tone).
2- Set The Memory Protect switch on the rear panel of the Juno-60 to OFF.
3- Set the tape recorder/software to PLAY, then press the LOAD button (8) on the Juno-60. The LOAD indicator will light up and the program number display window becomes blank, showing that the data has started. Be sure to press the LOAD button before the modulation tone is heard.
If the load button goes out and the program number display window shows double dashes (–), the loading is complete.
If error message occurs adjust output level on your tape machine. If the output level is too high or too low you will get an error message. Experiment to find the proper level for your equipment. Also make sure to press the load button at the right moment.
Saving Instructions:
Tape recorder or computer interface connections; Connect cable from your Juno-60 “save output” to the “Line input or Mic Input” on the Tape recorder or computer audio interface.
1- Set your tape recorder or software to record mode.
2- Press the SAVE button (#6) of the Juno 60. The save indicator will light up and the program number shown in the display window will go out. Also. the pilot tone will be sent from the SAVE jack.
3- If you tape recorder features the recording volume adjust knob, adjust it so that the pilot tone registers near 0 db. In 4 or 5 seconds the Juno-60 produces a modulated tone, i.e.saving into the tape recorder/software begins. (be sure to complete adjusting the recording level before the modulated tone is heard.
BTW: In case your not already aware of it, we have a cool collection of sounds for your old Juno-60. 112 Patches are available on data cassette or WAV file download. That will get your old Juno back on it’s feet again. More info can be found At The Roland Section Of Our Web Site

Hi,
This article is very helpful, thank you.
I was just wondering what the procedure is for loading/saving just one bank of sounds?
Or whether it just loads the whole lot at once.
I look forward to hearing back from you 🙂

Hi Dan,
You can only load the entire bank at once (56 patches).

Hey there! My Juno lost its memory and I had to change the battery. But when I try to load the patch (from a wave file through my audio interface), Juno always gives me an Error message in the display. If its a volume issue, probablly because its too loud, why when I turn the volume down the display simply doesnt show anything? You know what this suppose to be?
Thanks!

When loading through the cassette port on any vintage synth, the volume level is critical. As you describe, If it’s too high, you get an error message. Too low and you don’t get enough signal and the synth does not display anything. The only thing you can do is raise the volume in small amounts from where you are not receiving anything due to not enough volume. You should reach a sweet spot between the two which will load the data.
If you do that and still continue to have problems, there might be a defect with the .wav file or a possible hardware problem with the Juno cassette interface.
Hope this helps!

Hi my friend!
Thanks for you attention.
Well, apparently there’s no right level, cause i did like you said and turned like degree by degree on the audio interface at the certain point where one level is ERROR and the next one is nothing.
You think there might be some problem with the file? Cause my battery is brand new…
Could it be some technical issue like bitrate or anything like this related with the file?
I got the patch from this website:
http://www.polynominal.com/site/studio/gear/synth/roland-juno60/Juno%2060%20dump%200dB.wav
Do you have any other for me to test?
Again thank you very much, Proton!

Yes, it’s either a problem with your file or a hardware issue. We have sounds for the Juno in WAV format. 112 patches, two banks of 56 sounds – $25. USD. I’m sure that they will load. They have been tested and sold to hundreds of Juno owners. So if you purchase them and are still having problems, you know that it’s hardware related. That would not surprise me since the Juno is now over 30 years old!

Hey everyone I just got a Juno 60. All the factory programs where written over so I loaded the factory wav files from Roland and took a cord out of my headphone out on my laptop and into load and hit play on my wav player and it loaded perfectly the first time without any errors but when I turn the synth off and back on all the data is lost, any ideas thanks, A.C.
